DOMESTIC VIOLENCE STATISTICS IN SOUTH CAROLINA IN 2006
- South Carolina is ranked #7 in the nation for the number of deaths which involve men killing women due to domestic violence
- There were 50 known deaths due to domestic violence
- South Carolina had 4,144 women and children living in domestic violence shelters
- 355 women were turned away at domestic violence shelters due to lack of shelter space
- The Attorney General's Pro Bono Program has prosecuted 2,300 domestic violence cases with a 70% conviction rate
- 17,812 women received non-shelter services
- 2,519 children received non-shelter services
- There were 20,030 calls answered at Crisis Lines
